No typing - no errors

The barcode in the bottom of every cattle passport contains all the important information about the animal:
- the ear tag number
- the breed
- the sex
- the date of birth
Using a barcode scanner you can transfer all that information straight onto the screen without having to do any typing, and without the chance to make a mistake.
You can use any "Keyboard Wedge" barcode scanner, though you must make sure it is suitable to scan such a wide barcode. Scanners come in two models, the Wand (a pen that you swipe across the barcode) and the CCD (more like a gun that scans the whole code in one go).
Whilst the Wand scanner is slightly cheaper, in our experience it can be difficult get it to scan. The CCD model is much easier to use.
We recommend the 90mm CCD scanner from Gane Datascan.

To order, call 01274 759904 and order:
- 90mm CCD Barcode Scanner --------- £96.00
- 2M Straight cable KBW --------------- £5.00
Please note, these prices were accurate at the time of publishing (10 March 2001) but may, of course, change in the future. Prices exclude VAT and Carriage.
Once you have your scanner, plug it in and go to the Display Options page in the Account Admin section where you can activate CattleController's barcode reader functions. There is no software to install and no hardware to configure.
