What is a privacy statement for?
CattleController Ltd is registered under the Data Protection Act and of course, acts in accordance with all the regulations laid down there. So why make a Privacy Statement?
We’ve prepared this Privacy Statement to make specific reassurances that your information is kept confidential. This document will run through the different kinds of information collected and stored by CattleController and explain what we will use it for.
Your personal details
To register for an account with CattleController, you are required to enter your name, address and email address. You also need to enter some details about your farm. This information will be used for compiling the reports that make up the CattleController service (e.g. your Herd Register and Movement Book) and if you chose to send movement details or passport applications to the BCMS (British Cattle Movement Service) your Holding Number will be sent to them with any transactions that you send.
From time to time, we may send you a newsletter updating you on the service or important customer service announcements. You can request not to recive these newsletters by writing to admin@CattleController.com.
CattleController will not pass your personal details to any third party without your specific consent.
Your cattle details
As a cattle recording system, you will need to enter details of your cattle onto the CattleController system. We will not pass your cattle details to any third party without your specific consent (E.G. if you chose to send movement details and passport applications to the BCMS (British Cattle Movement Service) using CattleController, we will send the details that you request us to).
Other information we collect
We use IP addresses to analyse trends, administer the site, track user’s movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.
Who can access my information?
When you set up your account, you will set a password for your account. As long as you keep your password secret and secure, your stock records will be protected. When you choose your password, make it hard to guess. We thoroughly recommend that you chose a meaningless combination of numbers and letters eg: di3i892q. You will be surprised how easily you remember it after typing it in half a dozen times!
Employees of CattleController and its agents (e.g. the web hosting company) do have access the database and therefore to your information. This is vital to the provision of the Service to you and is limited to those people who specifically require access to the data and are fully aware privacy issues.
When you enter any information about your livestock or yourself, that information is encrypted and is protected with the best encryption software in the industry - SSL. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of Web browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when you are just ‘surfing’.
We will share aggregated information on user demographics and herd statistics with our partners and advertisers. This is not linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.
This web site contains links to other sites. Please be aware that we, CattleController Ltd, are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by this Web site.
The CattleController service requires cookies to function. These are "transient" cookies that are never stored on your hard drive. They simply hold a unique and random id number in your browser's memory for the time you spend at CattleController's site. This id number is “forgotten” as soon as you shut down your browser.
If you have any questions about privacy write to me, Walter Burrough (w.burrough@CattleController.com).
